Emma Watson was born in Paris. At the age of five she moved with her mother and younger brother to Oxfordshire following her parents' divorce. Ever since she could talk, Emma wanted to become an actress acting in school plays and getting esperience wherever she could. She trained at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a theatre school where she studied singing, dancing and acting. By the age of 10, she had already performed in a number of various productions and school plays.
Harry potter casting agents found Watson through her Oxford theatre teacher, and they were impressed. It took eight (8!) auditions before producer David Heyman told Emma Watson that she had been cast for the role.
